Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was born in Germany and died in the United States. But in between he spent nearly 20 years in Switzerland, seven of them in Bern (1902 to 1909). It was in this city that he developed his Special Theory of Relativity. Our Einstein Suite - newly opened in 2010 - is dedicated to the physicist and global thinker, and displays rare documents, pictures and correspondence relating to his time here. Also displayed in the suite is a map, showing where he lived, studied and worked. The Einstein House in Kramgasse (one of the seven addresses at which he lived) and the Einstein Museum are both within walking distance of the Hotel Allegro. Einstein described Switzerland as "that European oasis . . . the most beautiful place I know of on earth." But his fondest memories were of our city in particular. As he once recalled: "Those were the happy times, the years in Bern."
The Einstein Suite - located on the fourth floor, facing south - feature generous and exclusive furnishings. The living area offers a comfortable home-from-home atmosphere, and the bathroom includes a relaxing Jacuzzi.
